“The PESSIMIST complains about the wind;
the OPTIMIST expects it to change;
the REALIST adjusts the sails.”
– William Arthur Ward
I realized over the weekend that I need to adjust my sails. As a newbie to the world of photography I am still trying to find my style, my niche, basically where do I fit in in such a big sea of other professionals?
I criticize my work to no end, I find that one moment I love what I have produced and then a second look makes me question everything. I have been very dependent on likes on Facebook and Instagram – when I only get maybe 4 likes on something that I think is wonderful makes you wonder what am I doing incorrectly? Answer, absolutely nothing.
So adjusting my thinking (sails) is what I am focusing on this week and from here on out. I need to be proud of me and my work no matter what other people think or like. Until I am happy with my work no one will be. I have come a long way from where I started a year ago and I hope I can say that at this exact same time next year.
Here is to all of you out there feeling the same way, adjust those sails and be a realist!
